Farmers’ training on seed village held From Our Correspondent JAGIROAD, June 28 – A day-long farmers’ training on seed village and its necessity, a centrally sponsored scheme, was organised by the district agricultural development office, Morigaon at the premises of Kalamandir here on June 23 last. Altogether 200 farmers from various villages under Jagiroad LAC took part in it.
Attending the training as a resource person, Bimala Prasad Deuri, Agriculture Development Officer, Jagiroad, gave a description on improved agricultural practices for better paddy production. In his lecture, Deuri highlighted aspects like seed quality, good germination capacity, free from germ of diseases, moisture contents, normal method including seed treatment, isolation distance, roughing, harvesting, thrashing and drying, bagging, storage, etc.
Meanwhile, the agriculture development office also distributed a new seed-’MTU-7029’, a rice variety, to the farmers of the villages namely, Dungabori, Paliguri, Taranga-par, Borbori, Banglabori No-182, Na-khola, Satiabori, Bherbheri villages under Jagiroad LAC.
Silver jubilee : The concluding function of silver jubilee celebration of Sur-deol Sangeet Mahavidyalay, a pioneer cultural organisation of central Assam, will be held at the institution premises with a two-day programme on June 28 and 29.
Munin Borthakur president, celebration committee, will hoist the flag while smriti-tarpan will be performed by Dr Altafur Rahman, principal, Jagiroad College. A colourful cultural procession will be flagged off by Loknath Mahanta, circle officer, Mayong Revenue Circle.
State artists Paban Bordoloi, Pragyan Baruah, Nabin Rajkonwar and Suren Saikia will perform in a classical function to be held on June 28.
Gautam Bora, Cultural, Co-operation and Elementary Education Minister, poet Nilamoni Phukan, Hem Hazarika, satirist, and Bibekananda Doloi, parliamen-tary secretary, PWD, Government of Assam, will attend the open session which will be held on June 29. A souvenir edited by Kumud Baruah will also be released in the open session.
Khagen Mahanta along with Archana Mahanta will inaugurate a folk-based cultural function where artiste Moonmoon Das will perform.
Among others, felicitation function and award distribution to the meritorious students will also be organised.
Erosion-hit areas : Former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta along with the members of AGP(P) Central and Morigaon district committees including senior leader Bubul Das visited the erosion-affected Bhuragaon area in Morigaon district on Sunday to take stock of the situation.
In a press meet held at the PWD inspection bungalow here, the AGP(P) president said that the land of about 10 families of Dighaliati village under Bhuragaon Revenue Circle was completely eroded by the Brahmaputra during last seven days.
The former Chief Minister emphasised on scientific anti-erosion measures along the bank of the Brahmaputra. On this front, his party will move the Central Government to implement permanent erosion protection measures, added the AGP(P) president. He also demanded an enquiry against the alleged misappropriation of funds in maintaining the embankment.
